2/20/2011 - Another Great Backyard Bird Count is in the books. Again this year I stood at our backdoor and counted all the birds. I used a dry-erase marker to write the tally and description of each bird type. I’ll look up the actual name of each bird later before I post the results to #GBBC. /www.birdsource.org/gbbc/

Welcome to West OK Journal

West OK Journal is happy to now be apart of the Exploring Oklahoma History family of blogs.

A few years ago when we started West OK Journal it was to be a place to share news and information about Western Oklahoma. Soon many of the local news papers and city governments finally came online making the need for West OK Journal as a news source, well, redundant. We tried a few different services and directions for the site and it all came down to one simple word, life.

The new mission of West OK Journal is to provide a place to talk about life in Western Oklahoma. Anything from a story about growing up in the west OK or letting everyone know about something that happed just a moment ago.

If you would like to tell your story about life in Western Oklahoma, just click on the “Share your story, picture, or video” link you’ll find on the left side of this page.

To submit a story, picture, or video, you first have to have a Tumblr account. Your submission will then be reviewed for content and whether it’s appropriate for West OK Journal. Once approved it will show up in our blog.

Tumblr has a Terms of Submission you must agree to. All posts must be family friendly. The topic is Life in Western Oklahoma, we will not approve anything off topic. We also will not approve any advertising, inappropriate or malicious content, or rants against any person, organization, political party, or religion. Your posts may be edited for spelling and punctuation.

We hope you enjoy the new West OK Journal. If you have any questions please feel free to use the Feedback Tab, on Twitter or Facebook, or contact us at BlogOklahoma.us.

Elk City’s new Walmart opened on October 27. Who would have thought it would be a place you’d reconnect with your neighbors. On a couple of trips to pick up a few odds and ends I’ve run into people I haven’t seen in some time including a few of my actual neighbors. Walmart, a social experience with low prices.
